Wearing the Marching Lion Uniform
A uniform is the most widely recognized symbol of any marching unit. Through many years of hard work, the uniform of the Tallwood High School Marching Lions has become a symbol of the dedication and discipline that makes this group unique. To maintain this reputation, certain rules must be obeyed while wearing the uniform. These rules are meant to promote a feeling of pride and respect.
GENERAL RULES:
- All major pieces of the uniform will be marked with a number. The student is responsible for remembering those numbers as well as the care of their uniform.
- Shoes must be marked with name inside the shoe.
- Everyone must maintain the same level of dress at all times (i.e. everyone wears gloves or nobody does.)
- The Marching Hat MUST be kept upright at all times When the hat is not being worn as a band, you are to strip your gautlets, place them in your hat and rest it on the bleachers. The hat should NEVER be carried by the plume or upside down by the strap.
- The hat must always be worn properly, NEVER BACKWARDS!
- Gloves are to be kept clean at all times.
- Black Marching Shoes, NO SNEAKERS, should always be kept clean and polished.
- HIGH Black athletic socks (with no logo) must be worn with the uniform.
- The top outside layer worn underneath the Marching Band Uniform Jacket will be this season’s band camp t-shirt and that t-shirt only.
- Jewelry (rings, watches, earrings) and heavy makeup may not be worn while in uniform, unless it is
part of a specific costume. Hair longer than collar length must be worn up in the hat. - The THS Marching Band Uniform may only be worn by members and worn exclusively for performances.
- You are responsible for the proper care and maintenance of your uniform. The vinyl and brim of the hat must be cleaned using Fantastic or other all-purpose spray cleaner. If your uniform has excess damage, you will be responsible for the maintanence.
- When not being worn, uniforms must be hung properly on the student’s designated hanger. If the uniform is not properly hung, the individual will not be dismissed until it is hung properly.
- Damage to or loss of any part of the uniform is YOUR financial responsibility.
- HOMECOMING: If a student is a the marching band and is elected to the Homecoming Court, they will still be required to march in the half time show in their marching band uniform. They should be prepared to wear the uniform as a part of the Homecoming Court.
NOT ALLOWED WHILE IN UNIFORM:
- Shouting (unless called for in performance or the line of duty)
- Running
- Swearing
- Smoking
- Spitting
- Public Displays of Affection
- Any other inappropriate public behavior
